Solar panel charging station (possily for the Folk Festival)

Postby leftyfb » Tue Dec 31, 2013 2:09 pm

I have a fairly large solar panel (and might be able to get a 2nd) that I'd like to turn into a standing solar charging station for mobile devices. This might be a good thing to have had a Lowell Makes booth at the Folk Festival for 2014. It will need a charge controller that we can either build or buy from ebay/amazon for around $20-$30.

Beyond that we could work with some of the carpentry folks to build a nice looking and sturdy stand for it maybe with a nice "Lowell Makes" banner on it.

If it can provide enough juice, maybe we can get a raspberrypi to display a twitter feed for the folk festival or something for people to read while they're charging.

Let me know what you guys think.

Something along these lines:

Though the panel I have is pretty large and will provide some shade for those under it

This sounds like a good project. Seems like a pretty straight forward and easy task, just need to get all the parts and put it together. I'd be happy to help out on this project.
